Lots of strangeness happening, but then there is always something strange happening, that is normal. I can't wait for things to settle down before I start getting to sword class regularly or exercising, I just need to do it. This week's strangeness will end, but next weeks will start, there is always something.
The neighbors have a new dog and it came over to our side of the trees and got our dogs all worked up. They did not come when called but they did lay down when I was practically standing on them. This is better then in the past, my time spent running with them and training them is paying off.
D went back to work. Her knee still hurts a lot and she can't get around that well, but that is nothing new, she is used to that. She wants to be able to run around and kick ass (don't we all) but today is two weeks from the total knee replacement. A woman she works with had a partial knee replacement a few years ago and is amazed D can walk within 6 week of the surgery. Helps to go to the best.
Of course, during and just after she does here Physical Therapy she thinks she is crazy to even consider having the second one done in another month.
I think that is a good thing. The doctor must think the first knee will be in good enough shape to take all her weight in another month if that is how soon he schedules second knees. Now I know it is worse for D when she does PT and her knee hurts like hell, but I really don't want to see that anymore, it is hard. Everyone send me sympathy, because I am the one that needs it!
Here is hoping my next update won't take another 2 years. Tags: dogs, knee, physical therapy Current Location: work Current Mood: contemplative Current Music: Neil Young

Since I was 12 years old I have been getting migraine headaches. At first I got them 3 or 4 times a month, and they were incredibly powerful, can't see, intense pain, vomiting every 20 minutes for 3 hours, in short, not fun. In later years, the intensity has gone down and the frequency has varied widely.
I have been taking baby aspirin for about 4 years now and have not had a migraine since. My sister also has migraine, or should I say used to. She has been taking baby aspirin for a year now with no migraines.
Important health note: aspirin is a blood thinner (I think that's how it stops the migraines) so you should always consult your physician before taking it. For instance, D bruises very easy, it might not be a good idea for her.
I am also really excited about a rash I have. It has been about 3 months since I hurt my shoulder, and on top of the normal problems you would expect with only being able to use one arm, my sword fighting martial arts class has been frustrating. Once my shoulder get to feeling good, I use it, have a great night, then the next day my shoulder is killing me and I have to wait another couple of weeks to use it again. About once a year, I get hives on my chest, this year it really hit the back of my neck, face ears, arms and even hands. Also, this time mom is living with me, so she made me go to the doctor. The doctor said, we know it gets better on its own, so we can let it alone, or we can use steroids, which should be safe and will help it get better faster. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory.
At this I perked right up! Do you mean it will help with my shoulder tendinitis? I asked with a hopeful expression. Yes, she said, Sign me up, I said. With any luck, it will help me get over the hump and get the tendon healed enough that I can use it with out inflaming it again, and let me tell you, after three months, I am tired of flaming.
Wish me luck.

Class last night was fun, if a bit exhausting. We had a spear and shield combo and a shield and single sword combo defending or trying to dislodge the defenders of a pocket in a stand of pine trees. Generally, it was easier to dislodge then defend, as you had more mobility, and greater control of the initiative and range. Being a shieldman, I spend a bit of time running around the trees as fast as I could to get to the back where you could get through, but had to push past a bunch of pine branches. We sent the single swordsman first, as flanking and rear attacks are his job, but he did not get through all that fast and got a nice cut on his hand, and I figured that I could do better with a shield. Turns out I was right, but only half right. The shield helped, but what was even more help was my total disregard for any damage the branches might cause to me as I charged through like a bull in a china shop. I think my glasses helped here, as I never worried about my eyes. As usual, aggressiveness wins. Tags: sword class Current Location: work Current Mood: happy Current Music: None

It has been an "interesting" couple of days regarding dogs. After St. Patrick's day, I went to bed at 3:00 am. At about 7:30, Diane said she had picked up a stray dog running in the street so it would not get run over. She put this "guest dog" in the dog run outside and put Rockey and Duke inside with me. This did not go over well with the boys, and then barked, wined and cried constantly. This did not lead to a lot of restful sleep for me. Diane had to drive into Ann Arbor to pick up a co-worker and entertain him for the morning, so I was stuck with the dogs. As it turns out, our dogs do not seem to like other dogs at the house. We had to keep them separated from the guest dog and could not even let the boys out with the guest dog in the dog run, as our dogs would just run around the dog run trying to get in with everybody barking frantically. Monday morning, Diane got up early and put the guest dog in the dog run (she had been sleeping in a cage in the basement) so she could get some air and move around a bit more. Whenever she made a noise, the boys would kick up a fuss, so no sleep was had by the humans in the house. Wednesday the dogs owner called and Diane returned Tori to her owners. I was hoping that Rockey and Duke would be able to return to their normal routine, as they have been rather stressed with the extra dog. Unfortunately, in their stressed state, they were very unhappy when their mom put the OTHER dog in the car and drove away. When they are really pissed, they tend to fight. With the other dog in the car, Diane decided to just drive away and leave them to their fighting, it usually does not last long. Upon her return, she discovered Duke with a good sized hole in his forearm and blood all over the place. She cleaned him up and put a bandage on and he limped around until bed time. In the morning, his leg was swollen, so Diane took him to the vet and got some antibiotics. Now Duke is locked in the kitchen and Rockey is locked up in the dog run, both very unhappy. Oh well, we did not get them because they were smart. Tags: dogs Current Location: Work Current Mood: aggravated
